Know better. Do better.

We want to empower you to protect not just your own “forest”, but all forests!

Below are treatments for common local pests in the Idyllwild Mountains. Some pests, like Gold Spotted Oak Borer, can be spread to other tree communities by the transfer of firewood wood from one location to another, so DON’T MOVE FIREWOOD! https://www.dontmovefirewood.org/

There is also a downloadable PDF below entitled “A Practical Guide to Tree Pruning” which was created to help homeowners understand good pruning practices, and how to hire the right professional for your pruning project.

Treating Common Pests

  • Black Pineleaf Scale

Black Pineleaf Scale are “armored” bugs that infest pine trees. In large numbers, they stunt the growth of the needles, which can cause rapid decline.

  • Gold Spotted Oak Borer

The Goldspotted Oak Borer is an invasive beetle that kills certain species of mature oak trees. Its larvae aggressively mine under the bark.

  • Red Turpentine Beetle

The Red Turpentine Beetle attacks and weakens pine trees. It often leaves a reddish brown sawdust or goopy substance around the base called “frass.”

Tree care backed by science.

Strong trees span generations.

Proper pruning will establish the right form for your “Heritage” tree.
